🌿 Career Cluster Tuesday in FACS Employability Skills! 🦌 Our Highmore-Harrold FACS Employability Skills students had the opportunity to welcome Jon Dunlap, Game Warden with South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, to learn more about his career path and the many career opportunities available in the field! Students discovered career opportunities in this field ranging from wildlife biologists to graphic designers and many other roles. There are a variety of ways to turn your interests and skills into a career serving South Dakota’s people, wildlife, and natural resources. 🏛️👩‍💼 Learning Beyond the Classroom! 👨‍💼📚 Members of the Highmore-Harrold FACS Employability Skills Class recently took a trip to the Hyde County Courthouse to learn all about the many offices and services that help keep our county running! 🤝 Students discovered how the different offices work together to serve our county and community, learned about the careers and responsibilities of the people who work there, and explored reasons they might need to visit the courthouse in their own futures. They even got to check out the courtroom before wrapping up their visit with a trip to the basement to visit Deputy Klein! 👮‍♂️🔍 Experiences like these are a great reminder that learning about careers, community resources, and real-world life skills doesn't always happen inside the classroom! 💡 A HUGE THANK YOU to all of the wonderful ladies who took time out of their busy schedules to share their careers, knowledge, and expertise with us! ❤️ We appreciate your willingness to teach our students and help them better understand the important roles you play in our community!

Highmore-Harrold National Honor Society is excited to announce a new monthly award: 👏The Character Achievement Award!👏 NHS will sponsor three to four winners each month, with every month focusing on a different character trait. Students can be recognized by a combination of other students' nominations and/or staff nominations. Some specific upcoming examples include the following: Citizenship, patriotism, honesty, self-discipline, and respect. This month is based on overall positive character displayed within our school. Our first winner is Brecken Knox in first grade. Our second winner is Koral Kroeplin in fourth grade, and our last winner for this month is JR Force, senior (not pictured). THANK YOU for setting a good example within our school! Congratulations!!👏❤️

Another trip to the Senior Center to volunteer! A group of boys volunteered their time loading and moving items; they loaded a trailer of items AND unloaded the items at the Senior Center on Wednesday! They certainly put the work in! Good job, boys!👏

Last year, this snowblower was brought into the Shop at school to get some repairs done on it. Unfortunately, the person who brought it in hasn't taken it back home with them. If this is your snowblower, please reach out to the school so we can get it returned to its proper home!

🖤❤️Highmore-Harrold Student Council Takes on Regional Meeting! 🖤❤️ Six members of the Highmore-Harrold Student Council — Callie, Lainee, Layla, Tenley, Carly H., and McKenley — attended the 2026 Student Council Regional Meeting at T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre! The students had a great day learning, collaborating, and building their leadership skills. They heard a keynote speech from Steve Steele, head football coach at Pierre High School and author of a book on leadership titled “Building the Empire”. They also participated in a variety of breakout sessions covering debates, parliamentary procedure, campaign strategies, and even a National Guard activity! 🇺🇸 Of course, learning wasn’t limited to the meeting! The group enjoyed lunch together while working on plans for upcoming student council activities. 🥢🍱 We are proud of these students for representing Highmore-Harrold, growing as leaders, and bringing new ideas back to our school! Way to go, Pirates! 🏴‍☠️❤️🖤

Tomorrow is FCCLA National Be a Teacher Day! 🍎📚 We’re excited to take a little time to celebrate our amazing teachers and staff while also encouraging our students to think about a future career in education! 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫

Appointment cards went home with registered students. Please turn in completed patient enrollment forms to the school office as soon as possible.
⚠️ Note for Monday, Oct 12: There is no school on October 12. Parents must bring their children to the school at their scheduled appointment time and check in at the elementary office doors. We ask that parents remain with their children for the length of the appointment on 10/12, as there will be very limited staff available at the school that day.
For appointments occurring October 13-16, parents are not required to attend.

This week is National 4-H week! Today members of Hyde County 4-H took a picture together and club officers including Carter, Courtney, Kopper, and Briggs read the 4-H Pledge over the intercom for all to hear. Happy National 4-H week! Did you know that 4 H helps young people build leadership skills, confidence, teamwork, responsibility, communication skills, and a strong connection to their communities? For H also gives members opportunities to learn by doing trying new things serving others and discovering their interests.

💚In honor of National 4-H week, all 4-H members are asked to wear their Hyde County 4-H shirt to school on Wednesday, October 7. 💚Everyone else we ask to wear green! Consider joining one of our local 4-H clubs!

🏨✈️ CAREER CLUSTER TUESDAY: HOSPITALITY & TOURISM ✈️🏨 Today, Mrs. Kroeplin’s FACS Employability Skills Class explored the Hospitality & Tourism Career Cluster—and we took our learning into the community! 🏡 Beth — HydeOut Bed & Breakfast Thank you for giving us a tour, sharing your experience as a business owner, and talking about your role as Sunflower Festival Chairperson! 📬 Amy & Katie — Highmore Post Office Thank you for teaching us about mail and helping us put our formal letter-writing skills into practice! 📦💊 Jenna & Brandi — Vilas Drug Thank you for sharing about your UPS and pharmacy services! 💌 Students mailed letters to last year’s graduates who are enrolled in post-secondary schools, asking about college and career choices. Now we wait for those replies! The first student to receive a letter back wins a small prize! 🏆 🌻 Did you know? South Dakota’s tourism industry supports thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in visitor spending each year! We are so thankful for the local businesses and community members who help our students connect classroom learning to real-world careers! ❤️🖤

We would like to thank the Knights of Columbus for their wonderful donation to our school! With the weather getting cooler, these coats came in handy!! **Also, our Dressing For The Weather is attached so that our students can be prepared for any weather that we may have!**
