🚌 Delta Dental Bus Coming to Highmore (Oct 12–16)
Appointment cards went home with registered students. Please turn in completed patient enrollment forms to the school office as soon as possible.
⚠️ Note for Monday, Oct 12: There is no school on October 12. Parents must bring their children to the school at their scheduled appointment time and check in at the elementary office doors. We ask that parents remain with their children for the length of the appointment on 10/12, as there will be very limited staff available at the school that day.
For appointments occurring October 13-16, parents are not required to attend.

This week is National 4-H week! Today members of Hyde County 4-H took a picture together and club officers including Carter, Courtney, Kopper, and Briggs read the 4-H Pledge over the intercom for all to hear. Happy National 4-H week! Did you know that 4 H helps young people build leadership skills, confidence, teamwork, responsibility, communication skills, and a strong connection to their communities? For H also gives members opportunities to learn by doing trying new things serving others and discovering their interests.

💚In honor of National 4-H week, all 4-H members are asked to wear their Hyde County 4-H shirt to school on Wednesday, October 7. 💚Everyone else we ask to wear green! Consider joining one of our local 4-H clubs!

🏨✈️ CAREER CLUSTER TUESDAY: HOSPITALITY & TOURISM ✈️🏨 Today, Mrs. Kroeplin’s FACS Employability Skills Class explored the Hospitality & Tourism Career Cluster—and we took our learning into the community! 🏡 Beth — HydeOut Bed & Breakfast Thank you for giving us a tour, sharing your experience as a business owner, and talking about your role as Sunflower Festival Chairperson! 📬 Amy & Katie — Highmore Post Office Thank you for teaching us about mail and helping us put our formal letter-writing skills into practice! 📦💊 Jenna & Brandi — Vilas Drug Thank you for sharing about your UPS and pharmacy services! 💌 Students mailed letters to last year’s graduates who are enrolled in post-secondary schools, asking about college and career choices. Now we wait for those replies! The first student to receive a letter back wins a small prize! 🏆 🌻 Did you know? South Dakota’s tourism industry supports thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in visitor spending each year! We are so thankful for the local businesses and community members who help our students connect classroom learning to real-world careers! ❤️🖤

We would like to thank the Knights of Columbus for their wonderful donation to our school! With the weather getting cooler, these coats came in handy!! **Also, our Dressing For The Weather is attached so that our students can be prepared for any weather that we may have!**

College Fair Fun! Highmore-Harrold juniors and seniors attended the Ft. Pierre College Fair on Monday, September 28. The students visited varying booths, asked questions, took home a lot of free pens, and gained important information about post-secondary options! We are excited to see what the future holds for each of them!

The September 30th, 281 Cross Country meet will now be in Huron, same start time of 10:00 am and same leave time of 7:45.

UPDATE: The Indigenous Relative Advisory Committee Meeting that was scheduled for tomorrow at 4:00P.M. has been POSTPONED until a later date. We will update when we have it rescheduled!

🍎🥕 Fresh, Healthy, and Exciting News at Highmore-Harrold! 🥦🍓 We are excited to announce that the Highmore-Harrold School District has received the South Dakota Fruit & Vegetable Program Grant! 🎉 Through this program, our elementary and junior high students will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables as snacks throughout the school year. This program is about more than just a healthy snack! 🍎 These fruits and vegetables provide important vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other nutrients that help support growing students. It also gives our students the chance to try new fruits and vegetables, discover new favorites, and build healthy eating habits along the way. We are excited to see our students taste, explore, and enjoy something new! ❤️💚 A big thank you to everyone who is helping make this possible for our students! 🍏🥦 Healthy choices today can help build healthy habits for tomorrow!

Cross Country Update!! The 281 XC meet that was to be in W. Spring on 9/23 has been postponed to Wednesday, 9/30, same 10:00 am start time and 7:45 leave time. Because of that change, we will now not be going to the XC meet in Miller on Monday, 9/28.

Indigenous Relative Advisory Committee

We’re inviting parents, guardians, and family members to join the Indigenous Parent Advisory Committee (IPAC). This group helps ensure Native students and families have a voice in our district and supports the inclusion of Native culture, language, identity, and student success.

🎨 Career Cluster Tuesday: Arts, Audiovisual & Communications! 🎥📱 The Highmore-Harrold Family & Consumer Sciences Sophomore Employability Skills class, taught by FCS Teacher Mrs. Kroeplin, recently took their learning outside the classroom! As they explored the Arts, Audiovisual, and Communications Career Cluster, students had the opportunity to visit three local Highmore businesses and see firsthand how creativity, communication, design, and technology are incorporated into careers right here in our own small community. 📍 Highmore Herald 📍 Amber Waves 📍 Venture Communications – Marketing Department Students learned that creative skills aren't limited to traditional "art" careers. Creativity, problem-solving, communication, design, photography, technology, and marketing can be valuable skills in many different career fields—and even in starting your own entrepreneurial venture! 💡 A huge THANK YOU to these local businesses for welcoming our students, sharing your knowledge, and helping them see the many career opportunities available right here at home! ❤️

🚌 School Bus Safety Outreach

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is focusing on school bus safety, reminding drivers to slow down and follow the law around school buses.

The School Bus Safety Outreach runs across South Dakota. Highmore-Harrold has been working with troopers who will monitor bus routes, loading zones, and areas where students regularly get on and off buses.

Troopers will be patrolling our bus routes on Monday, September 21, and Tuesday, September 22. Marked patrol vehicles may be positioned near bus stops and other high-traffic areas, and troopers may also follow school buses to watch for unsafe driving and other potential concerns.

The goal is to educate drivers, reduce dangerous behavior, and keep our students safe on their way to and from school.

Please remember to slow down, stay alert, and follow all school bus safety laws when you see one of our buses on the road. 🚌
